Yeah my sister uses the 50mm F1.8 on a t2i and it’s still good, but the 50mm 1.4 also focuses much faster because it’s USM, which means it basically has a small motor inside. The 1.4 lens will also allow you to be much closer to your subject and still be able to focus, whereas the 1.8 lens you’ll have to be a little further and have more difficulty focusing if you are too close to your subject.
The difference is about 200 dollars, and I think you might as well spring for the more expensive one. Most of my close friends have the 50mm F1.4 lens and we all love it.
This, by the way, is referring to the canon brand. I don’t know much about other brands.
